San Diego Humane Society offers a variety of discount programs to assist pet owners keep their pets in their home, happy and healthy.
Senior Adoption Program
All animal adoption fees are waived for senior citizens 65 years of age and older.
Studies have shown that pet companionship may improve senior citizen health and outlook on life. Lowered blood pressure and stress reduction are among the benefits of pet ownership. In addition, seniors acquiring pets through our program report feeling happier and safer.
Our Senior Adoption Program waives the adoption fee for any animal to senior citizens 65 years of age or older. All animals in our adoption program are spayed/neutered, have current vaccinations, permanent microchip identification, and more! Please bring a photo ID for age verification.
We are proud to offer special military pricing:
- 25% discount on adoption fees with military ID.
- Fee Waived: In accordance with Senate Bill No. 245, San Diego Humane Society, a public animal shelter, shall not charge an adoption fee for any animal if the person adopting the animal presents a current and valid driver’s license or identification card with the word “VETERAN” printed on its face pursuant to Section 12811 of the Vehicle Code. We may limit the number of animals adopted as pursuant to this section to one animal each six-month period.

Community Support Services
San Diego Humane Society offers a number of programs to support pet guardians in need, including our low cost vaccination and microchip clinic, community pet pantry, eviction and housing support and financial assistance for veterinary care. In addition to these programs, we have compiled resources for human- and pet-related needs, including information for people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence.
