COVID-19 Emergency Hours

San Diego Humane Society is taking necessary steps to protect the health and well-being of the animals in our care, our staff and the community we serve. At this time, we are open, although we will minimize activities that involve groups of people, and are making adjustments to protect everyone's health and safety.

This page is intended to provide emergency updates as we have them. We also recommend you follow San Diego Humane Society on Twitter @sdhumane.

Emergency Hours for All Campuses

We are reducing our operations in Escondido to focus exclusively on providing services related to animal care and public safety until further notice. Services being eliminated for now include adoptions, vaccine services, licensing and owner requested euthanasia.

Please call us at 619-299-7012 to schedule an appointment for these services at our San Diego or Oceanside campuses. These locations are open daily from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., beginning Friday, March 20.

San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition

cropped-SDWAC-Logo-e1484596796966.pngWho is the SDAWC:

The San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition comprises eight local animal shelters, which consistently exceeds standards of care to save more lives – making us one of the strongest animal coalitions in the nation and a leader in the humane treatment of animals. The SDAWC member organizations work together for the purpose of saving animal lives.

About Getting to Zero:

Together, the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition has been working towards “Getting to Zero,” a movement to eliminate the need for unnecessary euthanasia of homeless pets in San Diego. These eight shelters have committed to working together to transfer homeless pets between organizations and find solutions for each individual animal. The coalition achieved zero euthanasia in July 2015, marking the first time in San Diego County’s history -- and the nation’s top 10 largest cities -- that no healthy or treatable animals will be in danger of being euthanized.

Imagine 45,000 of anything. Dollars: that’s roughly the median income of an individual in San Diego County. People: that’s nearly the capacity of Petco Park. Now imagine that every seat at Petco Park is filled with an animal—that’s the number of homeless animals that end up in shelters each year in San Diego County.

Of those 45,000, many are healthy and adoptable. Many others, however, fall into one of two other categories: treatable or unhealthy. Sadly, several thousand treatable animals used to be euthanized.
